Does my child need help with reading?
Studies show that reading proficiently by the end of third grade is a crucial marker in a child’s educational development. Failure to read proficiently is linked to lower grades in all other subjects, and lower confidence in performing academically, socially, and emotionally.
What does this program do?
My reading program is designed for K-2 students needing assistance learning how to read, and becoming independent readers in (and above) their grade level. This program is also for K-2 students who need more of a challenge to further their reading skills and abilities.
How it works:
Our early reading program will develop their critical thinking skills and reading comprehension, which will help them with their county and state assessments in reading.
My method: I establish a rapport with students, and then assess where their needs are. I then teach using a variety of strategies, we do skills together, and then the student does the skill independently. I give immediate feedback, and re-teach where needed. I incorporate thinking, writing, and oral language development through speaking, reading application, comprehension, and critical thinking questions.
In other words, I teach them from where they currently are.
